When a Necromancer does not want to re-animate a corpse, they still have a number of spells which exploit that corpse as a resource, whether draining it's essence and converting it into energy for themselves and life for their Abomination's use, causing it to suddenly and violently explode, damaging all nearby enemies. In the mid 30'ies a Necromancer can also utilize corpses for self-buffs and clickable party buffs.

Necromancers undergo two rights of passage as they progress in their mastery of undeath. The first grants them the ability to appear dead, fooling enemies into giving up on attacking them, much like a monk's Feign Death ability.

Feign Death rank 2 is a book drop from [[Graystone]] and more specifically from either [[High Guardian Auroc'Yor]] or [[High Commander Rakh'Yor |High Commander Rakh'Yor]].

Since the Pantheon of the Ancient update Necromancers no longer need to choose between their two undead forms and instead of just two, they have four. They have two of each type one that shows you as your true form and one that disguise your true form.

*[[Lich]] - The Lich focus on the physical aspect of the Necromancer and you appear as a skeleton. In this form your physical spell are more potent and you gain an increase in HP and Armor Class.
*[[Wraith]] - The Wraith focus on the spiritual aspect of the Necromancer and you appear as a spectral skeleton. In this form your spiritual spells are more potent and you gain a rune to damage.
Further more both forms provide you with Eternal Breath and See Through Invisibility.

As early as their fourth level, Necromancers can learn to summon an Abomination, a monstrous and fairly mindless flesh golem designed to fight for the Necromancer and obey his every command. The Abomination can be named, and will stay around indefinitely until dismissed or destroyed. Abominations can also be equipped with new [http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Grafts Grafts], removed from the bodies of slain foes by the Necromancer's [[Necropsy]] ability, which is available at level 10. These [http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Grafts Grafts] come in a variety of types such as claws, fists, legs, hearts, and rib cages. Your first grafts are available to attach to a pet at level 10, with upgrades coming every 5th level. While an Abomination can have multiple grafts equipped (starting at two), it can only have one of each type at a time. Each type is then varied further by granting different abilities or bonuses, allowing for a very customizable pet.  You can find grafts on the exchange looking for jewelry level 0 - 1.  For faster searching, add the special name prefix to the grafts for each 10th level.
